温泉ヶ岳・根名草山(栃木,群馬,福島)
2026.05.30 (土)日帰り
Kanto temperatures have already crossed 30°C during the week but I was surprised to see 3° while crossing senjohohara area early in the morning. Luckily I had packed my UL rain jacket which would act as an extra layer in case needed.
There were already a couple of cars in the car parking when I reached. Maybe they had come at night before as I saw one with a toilet tent set beside it. Hike starts in earnest with lots of ladders and steep portions taking you to the Konzei pass in less than 30 minutes. In fact before reaching the pass I saw somefaint marks going straight up the ridge going towards Yusengadake and took the short cut to avoid a few switchbacks through sasa grass. There was some relief in the gradient as the trail went straight ahead first and then started climbing through switchbacks. Rhododendrons are in full bloom on the trail along with some small white flowers on trees.
Just a little before the main peak the trail disappeared with remaining snow covering a large area and I have to trust my instinct to reach the bunki where a trail skirts towards Nenakusayama. After a short climb the peak is reached and it offered a great view of snow capped mountains on horizon in 150° direction.
Enjoying the view with snacking I went down to Konzei pass to continue towards the second peak of the day. Though less in elevation, this peak was the harder of two ladders and ropes in the later part of route.
Was surprised to note that Konzei san is a famous 100 mountains of Tochigi ken as well. Peak area is open on one side and offer a great view towards Mt Nantai. Met a couple of hikers with full gear who were continuing ahead with wild camping at night to continue the loop. Another couple i met while descending Yusengadake were going for Sawa Kudari and Sawa nobori. Interesting area it is.
Coming back I took bath at Onsenji at yunomaru and a lunch set Shakankan near Kiyotaki IC
