This hike usually starts from Mizununa station famous for its onsen overlooking the tracks, but as I was driving I decided to go a little further ahead on the road leading to trailhead hoping to find space to park car on road shoulder. Lucky to find space just a little before the actual trailhead. The hike starts in earnest very soon amongst the Sugi trees. A very different topography compared to previous hike to nearby Asumayama. Walking on fallen leaves was a pleasant experience and very soon I reached the first or only one junction. Took the left one on way up and thought of coming down from the other after checking the observatory. There are hardly any views from the peak but there is a large open space with good views of Kurobi and Komagatake of Akagi mountain. A few benches to relax and enjoy the sunny day. It seems a forest road comes upto the observatory but it’s a short hike so it’s better to walk. Way down trail drops you down to the junction pretty soon and hike could be finished in just a little over an hour .
Midori city yuyu kan Onsen : have been to Onsen at the station before and wanted to try a different one. Google says there is one with wood fired stoves to warm water at the campsite and decided to there. A small onsen with just one bath and no way to control temperature except adding cold water from the hose. Water was so hot i could stay for more than 10 minutes, but it seems to be popular with locals. Lunch at Odaira-no-Sato was surprisingly very good with freshly made udon. It seems there is a copper mine nearby
Gunma 51/100.
