Tengu iwa and Eboshidake , both part of Gunma hyakumeizan are connected through a ridge passing though some minor peaks and Maruyama. Starting from trailhead in Uenomurra the initial part of trail to Tenguiwa was well marked with a couple of iron bridges. Once at the abandoned shade/ shackle it bifurcates into two one going straight up to Tenguiwa with numerous switchbacks or you take the left one which goes around and climbs gradually. The area around Tenguiwa and further to Shirakeyama is famous for flowers in late April and early May. We continued on the craggy ridge towards Maruyama- this route is less travelled and trail on has to tackle freshly grown branches jutting into your face. Though not very technical it was quite narrow at places and I would suggest the lower route which skirts the mountain for not so experienced. There are many false peaks before one can see the rounded peak to Maruyama and the hat shaped Eboshidake to its right. There is a bypass / maki michi to Eboshi but we went first to Maru Yama just to bag one peak. Eboshi looked cool from peak of Maruyama. So close and yet distant. 9 minutes time to reach looked impossible but a quick getting down and with couple of long ropes helped us to reach the chimney like peak of Mt Eboshi dake within 10 minutes.
For returning we chose to use maki michi all the way back to base of Tengu iwa. Passing through forest of fresh green it was sort of boring.
