I started YAMAP from May 2017. My hobby is skiing and I go to ski several times every year, but I didn’t climb mountains. In my childhood, I often climbed mountains with my family. I climbed Biwako Valley in April 2017 for the first time in a while. I mistook the way, felt a bit scared and looked for an application with gps function. And installing it, that's the beginning. When climbing Biwako Valley, I realized that of course I like skiing, but even if it is not a snowy mountain, I love a view from a peak. And I also realized that staying in a mountain itself calm my feelings. And not only skiing, I also became to like climbing. Because I live in Osaka city with little nature, I may miss the mountain. I have lived in Shiga, Kyoto, Shizuoka, Yamaguchi, and Osaka prefecture, but it is only Osaka that there are no mountains nearby. I would like to go to the mountains once a month as much as possible. I am interested in Hundred peaks. In 2024, I found out that I had developed a serious illness. Since the end of 2023, I had difficulty moving my right thumb and index finger. At first, I thought it was due to excessive computer use at work, so I received massages and other treatments at a chiropractic clinic. However, instead of improving, my fingers became even harder to move around spring. Around the same time, my speech also started to become slightly unclear. Feeling that something was wrong, I visited an orthopedic specialist and underwent an MRI, but the cause remained unknown. Initially, cervical spondylotic myelopathy was suspected, but the MRI suggested a different cause, so I was advised to see a neurology specialist at a clinic. At the neurology clinic, I underwent electromyography and was told that it could be motor neuropathy or motor neuron disease, so I was recommended to undergo further tests at a larger hospital. Following a hospital stay for tests, I was definitively diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Prior to being hospitalized for testing, I had already suspected that I might have ALS, so when the diagnosis was confirmed, I felt that my concerns had been validated. However, the shock and anxiety about the future were overwhelming, and I could barely endure the emotional impact. Regarding work, I continued remote work until July 2024, after which I transitioned to paid leave and long-term medical leave. At this point, I feel that my emotions have settled considerably.
