To call my outings âleisurelyâ would sound too casual, and yet, in truth, I am a beginner. Climbing twice a month feels just right for me. Out of respect for the mountains, I make it a rule never to overreach. Each mountain has its own temperament and quiet dignity. Graced with a distinct beauty, they reveal a different face with every season. To compete with others, to chase records, or to seek admiration for oneâs logbookâthese things strike me as misguided. What matters, I think, is simply to walk in silence, to feel the mountainâs presence, to listen to the wind as it moves across the summit. Still, I must admit that bad weather on weekends unsettles me. When rain clouds threaten and I cancel a climb, the energy that carries me through the workweek seems to drain away. Thatâs why a single clear day in the mountains feels worth more than a thousand pieces of gold. For such moments, I bow inwardly in gratitude for the mountainâs grace. At times, I scroll through my YAMAP logs and remember the trails Iâve walked. Reading the journals of fellow climbers, I find myself longing again for peaks Iâve yet to touch. The mountains are eternal; I am not. But for as long as I am allowed, I hope to keep this quiet companionship. As long as the mountains call, Iâll keep walking.
