Nekozaki Peninsula is a haven for both mountain and ocean lovers. You can hike up Mt. Kashima all the way to the Nekozaki Lighthouse, which marks the northernmost tip of Hyogo. Some parts of the trail are pretty steep, but overall it’s an easy hike. The ocean views along the way are marvelous—especially when you reach the lighthouse.
You can also walk along the seacoast, where you can see potholes (designated as Natural Treasures of Hyogo). We tried looking for fossilized footprints of elephants and deer that inhabited the area about 20 million years ago, but we couldn’t find them (or maybe we were just dumb 😅). We also spotted some interesting creatures like sea slugs, sea anemones, and sea roaches.
Nekozaki Peninsula should definitely be included as one of the most beautiful spots in Japan.
So glad I chose this place as a hiking destination for my friend’s mum visiting from the UK when he asked me to plan a hiking trip for her.
Oh, one more thing—we also ate at カフェハウス コロンビア, and their yakisoba omelette and fried rice are a must-try!
