ハイキング

I had Friday off so I headed to Kuju to climb Taisenzan and camp at Bogatsuru. 

I took the usual route using the Yufu express train to Bungo Nakamura and then used the community bus to Chojabaru. 

The hike was as wonderful as usual with a perfect temperature and lots of Autumn leaves carpeting the forest floor. There were also a lot of wasps and hornets I mostly ignored them but they were a constant nuisance. 

Upon arriving at Bogatsuru camp ground I set up my tent and had a short rest. Then it was time for the main activity, hiking Taisenzan. I had wanted to go in August but my daughter wanted to relax so I planned to go in Autumn for revenge. I hiked up peacefully enjoying the Autumn colours and trail fully. On top of the mountain I got great views of the lake, Yufudake and the rest of Kujurenzan. I hiked down and went for a bath at the mountain hut and got some beer to relax with. When I went to bed it was cloudy but it cleared during the night and when I woke up at 2am I was happy to many many stars in a clear Autumn nights sky. 

The morning was sunny so I took a small trip up Tattyusan and got beautiful views of the area and even saw lots of Miyama Kirishima. The whole time I could hear deer bleating in the forests around. I returned to the tent packed up and headed back to Chojabaru to freshen up and eat lunch. I caught the train back and enjoyed watching the countryside whizz past. 

Kuju is a wonderful place to visit in any season but Autumn is the best!

九重山（くじゅうさん）または九重連山（くじゅうれんざん）は、大分県玖珠郡九重町から竹田市久住町北部にかけて広がる火山群の総称である。最高峰は九州本土最高峰でもある中岳 (1,791m) 。日本百名山の一つに数えられ、一帯は阿蘇くじゅう国立公園に指定されている。
