ハイキング

Today I went to Kurume to view the beautiful yellow gingko leaves. I took the train to Nishitetsu Kurume and then took the bus to "Takenoko" ha ha. We hiked up to Myojyosan first and took a break while enjoying the rope swing and views. We then visited the fields of gingko trees. The area is not nice to sit at as the ground is rough so it is best to move on else where for lunch. 

After finishing up we pushed on to Shirakaneyama and had a short rest before hiking down to Ichinose park. We ate 17 ice cream and headed back to the Takenoko bus stop.

Our plans were ruined by a spring rain storm! We had a cabin booked and a plan set to go to Kirishima to hike Karakunidake but had to cancel in the morning. So sad to cancel the plan. 

I headed off as soon as the rain stopped for hike. As usual I took new paths and explored different routes on Kiyama. I found the rare red flower Pulsatilla koreana at the top although not many were left which is a great shame. The sky was dramatic with low clouds and grey blue clouds in the far distance. 

On the way down I found my first yamagani (Mountain crab) of the year. One of the best things about hIking in the spring is not just all of the colours and flowers but also the smell. 28  This is even better after rain as the trees and ground have mulchy earthy smell and all flowers add to the wonderful natural fragrance. 

Near the bottom I was very happy to see that the ancient water gate and shrine area had finally being repaired after becoming damaged a few years ago in torrential raining season storms.

天拝山（てんぱいざん）は、福岡県筑紫野市にある標高258mの山である。その名は、大宰府に流刑された菅原道真が自らの無実を訴えるべく幾度も登頂し天を拝したという伝記に由来する。古名は天判山（てんぱんざん）。

My work got cancelled so I took the day off and decided to go for a hike. I prepared a sandwich in the morning using Bree cheese and cooked bacon and packed my sandwich toaster to use for lunch. 

I hiked from Kashii station over Mikazukiyama and Tachibanayama. I stopped on Tachibanayama, threw down my bag and toasted the sandwich over a gas stove. After eating I carried on down past the friendly goat and went to Fukunoyu. The bath has a great few of the twin peaks of Mikazuki and Tachibana. Then I walked back to the JR line to finish my trip. 

立花山（たちばなやま）は、福岡市東区、糟屋郡新宮町および久山町にまたがる標高367.1mの山である。 都市部に近く、クスノキの巨木など自然に恵まれた山として南の三日月山（みかづきやま）とともに親しまれている。 また立花山は中世の立花山城（立花城）の跡としても知られている。

Off we went to Shioji for a Halloween family hike and to have a toasted sandwich party! After eating I headed through a different route to get back to the car and saw snakes and lovely Autumn colours. The kids had a great time!

四王寺山（しおうじやま）とは、福岡県太宰府市・大野城市・糟屋郡宇美町にまたがる標高410mの山である。構造的には最高点のある大城山（おおきやま・大野山とも）を中心に岩屋山・水瓶山・大原山と呼ばれる4つの山から構成されており、それらを別個の山とみなして一帯の山地の総称として四王寺山脈・四王寺山地と呼称する場合もある。

My wife went away on a trip so I had the girls for the weekend. So we went for a Sunday hike to Ohirayama which is just behind Amagi park. We hiked up and then set down for some toasted sandwiches for lunch. Along the way the girls found a huge worm across which made them scream. I was a hot and beautiful day and it was nice to take it easy for a change.

For a spring trip we went to Kirishima and the Ebino plateau for hiking and cabin camping. 

The weather has been scary all week with the threat of rain but in the end the weather on Saturday was perfect for outdoors activities! 

This is an easy hike which takes you around the volcanic lakes with great views and beautiful forests. The views of Karakunidake are great and it is a very peaceful walk. Of course we plenty of deer which are relaxed and not very scared of hikers so you can get quite close before they run away. 

After hiking we visited some areas around Ebino including an ice cream shop Daiwa farm before heading to Hinanomori campsite to make a camp fire and relax. 



霧島山（きりしまやま）は、九州南部の宮崎県と鹿児島県県境付近に広がる火山群の総称であり、霧島連山、霧島連峰、霧島山地あるいは霧島火山群とも呼ばれる。最高峰の韓国岳（標高1,700m）と、霊峰高千穂峰（標高1,574m）の間や周辺に山々が連なって山塊を成している。

有史以降も噴火を繰り返す活火山（気象庁の活火山ランク付けはB）であり、特に新燃岳と御鉢では活発な火山活動が続いている。火山噴火予知連絡会によって火山防災のために監視・観測体制の充実等の必要がある火山に選定されている。

Kirishima hiking, hiking Shiratoriyama and the volcanic lakes 白鳥山

Ooshima is a small fishing island that is part of Munakata city in Fukuoka. The island is very popular for its very high quality fishing. It is also a spiritual city connected to nearby Okinoshima Island a world heritage site which is closed to the public. Due to be it being forbidden to set foot on Okinoshima instead people worship and view it from Ooshima Island. 

We followed the Kyushu Olle course through Yamap, however this course misses the light house and Miura cave which is a shame. 

It starts by going up to Munakata shrine and then to a small mountain called Mitake. The course is not tough and well worth the time it takes. Near the end we went to the local history museum which is very well funded because of its connection to world heritage.

The plan for today was going to be camping at Bogatsuru in Kuju. Then plan B was camping in Tara and hiking and now plan C due to Covid-19, Shioji again. But the weather was great and the girls had a good time finding snakes, lizards, flowers and bugs! I took the gas stove and we made toasted sandwiches,Yum!
