Kyushu Olle Chikuho Kawara & Kawaradake

On Tuesday I was running in the park when I felt a strange pain in my knee. It was followed by a pop which left me limping home with sharp pains. I decided to rest on Wednesday and it has got a lot better since however I thought it wise to be play it safe and not hike much this weekend.

So I decided to do this Kyushu Olle course, your can find details and the map on the official website here.

We started at Fukkodaimae and caught the community bus which costs only 100Yen and got off at Saya. Near the bus stop we found the Kyushu Olle signs and the first sign post and tags. The course actually has a few forested areas and some wonderful views of Tachibanayama. It also goes through a number of bamboo forests, there were a lot of spider webs so kept on picking up a stick each time to help clear them away. After reaching the hill overlooking Shingu it became more of a paved walk. The sun beat down making it very hot and more difficult just due to the heat. I continued on past Ikea and over the JR tracks to reach the sand dune pine forests. Eventually it opened up and got a a wonderful view of the sea and Shingu beach, I wanted to dive into the water!

My leg still hurts but it was a good trip and a nice alternative to hiking up mountains.

Feel free to download my route from this map if you would like to follow it using Yamap. The google map on the Kyushu Olle site has many mistakes but is OK as a general guide.
