One last cross country ski for the season before we head home, this time twice around the short course. Lovely that I got to ski so much this week!

Yesterday we greatly enjoyed climbing Asahidake, and today we enjoyed looking at Asahidake while cross country skiing and picnicking in the snow.

Actually I was on skis, while my husband was on snowshoes this time. He is not a big fan of hills either up or down, and this is quite a hilly course. I have been skiing since childhood, so I was okay.

It was windy on Asahidake, but calm and... dare I say warm? in the onsen village. We did one and a half laps around the cross country ski course and enjoyed looking at Asahidake from below.

We went cross country skiing again at Moerenuma Park. It was pretty warm, but thankfully not rainy. This will probably be the last ski of the season...

We went cross country skiing at Moerenuma Park after church. We brought a friend, and it was his first time. We got rained on quite a bit but still had fun.

Four times around Maeda Forest Park on cross country skis. I still can't believe how much faster I run than ski... shouldn't it be the other way around? Beautiful weather, after the wind died down and it stopped snowing.

The weather was beautiful this morning. We enjoyed looking at the snow covered trees and Teineyama while cross country skiing in Maeda Park.

Today was the debut of my very own skis. I have had them for a long time... ever since M senpai left Japan and gave them to me. She took her boots with her, though, and since the bindings were an old style, I couldn't find any boots, and so the skis languished in the garage for years. Then we visited another shop. The owner suggested choosing boots I like, then changing to new bindings. I got boots that fit like my beloved running shoes (same brand). And although the fit was great, the boots were brand new and gave me blisters. Oops. Should have taken things slow. 😅

We only had an hour between two meetings, but we got a bit of skiing in! First time this season. The weather was great and it felt good to move. Hopefully we will get faster later in the season...

After church today, we went cross country skiing in the Moerenuma park with some people from church. Apart from my husband and me, everyone else had downhill skiing experience, but first time to try cross country skiing. They said they had fun, so maybe I can get them to go with us again.

We thought about a hike today, but the weather wasn't all that great, so we went skiing instead--4 laps around Maeda forest park. This was our fourth time this season; I am slowly getting the hang of it.

Second time cross country skiing this winter. My muscles had stopped hurting after the first time, but probably weren't fully recovered... because I started hurting again during the first round. And I got a big ol' blister on my left heel. And I can't figure out how my husband is so much faster than me when I take twice as many steps as he does. But it was sunny and beautiful and great to be outside.

While I patiently wait for the blister to heal, I will be watching how-to-cross-country-ski videos on youtube with the hope that I will be faster next time... 😅

It was a public holiday, so I didn't want to go anywhere popular (parking problems). I didn't quite make the right choice, since actually Maeda forest park seems very popular on weekends and holidays... it's just I have never been here on a weekend or holiday. (We had to hunt for a parking spot.)

Well, we wanted to go cross country skiing at some point, so we gave Maeda a try. Ski rental is 400 yen, and is open every day until sometime in March.

First lap around the park we were pretty slow and unbalanced. By the second time around we had gotten into our groove. We had a bit of lunch at the snack shop, then two more laps.

I felt fine when we finished, but the next day I was in pain. These are not the muscles I use for either hiking or running. But we liked it, and it was a good workout, so when the pain goes away, we will go back for more...
