Today we went to Aburayama to find some Autumn colours. The weather was unstable but still bright and good for hiking.

We found a lot of red leaves and autumn colours but also a lot of trees which had already shed their leaves.

Obon break has started. I have wanted to visit Iharayama to see the flowers for the past few weeks. I headed there today but unfortunately the flowers had mostly finished although there were still enough again to make it worth the effort.

While waiting for the bus a Filipino woman talked to me and asked to come along, I told her that her original plan of going to Keya beach was better and she shouldn't try but she came anyway. It wasn't long until she realised she made a mistake and so gave up in about 30mins in. Sometimes it is good to be spontaneous but forward planning is more important for hiking. I didn't see her again so I guess she used a Taxi.

Hiking over to the river valley from Anno falls was painful and I was chased by lots of large horse flies and mosquitos. I decided to enjoy the valley and walk back to the bus using a different route.

The horse flies are my Summer hiking nemisis!

Kiyama is my favourite local mountain. It is good to enjoy the forest with lots of diverse pants and trees and then reach the peak with such a wonderful view. I stopped at the top for some coffee just as it started to snow. The snow picked up as I reached Amandi onsen. I saw in the hot bath with snow coming down around me. Very relaxing.

Today I caught the train down to Imajuku and hiked some small mountains along the coast and visited the various shrines along at home one and other historic sites. I also couldn't resist going for a walk on the beach to feel the sea water on my feet.

Even though the mountains were small they all added up and some of them were like a jungle with lots of spiderwebs in the face! The view from bishamonyama was a great payoff though. Looking out across the sea drinking the frozen lychee drink was wonderful.

After climbing down I walked along Nagahana beach, the sea breeze the cool sea was perfect. I walked through the pine dunes and found the site of an ancient sea wall which was very old and made to repell the mongol invasion of Hakata bay. It was a nice bonus to end the hike.

Today I headed to Itoshima to hike Tomboyama. It was a hot hike so I took things easy and didn't rush.

I saw two snakes one by the fields and the other on the mountain trail. They moved fast though so I couldn't get great pictures. I saw hundreds of huge butterflies today. Many of them were drinking on the mountain roads. The top of the mountain was clear and had a wonderful breeze that felt good. I saw two guys on the top who had ridden their dirt bikes up to the top! I enjoyed the views and also the wild flowers. Tiger Lilies growing in the wild is amazing

I hiked down using a different route and walked down through the mountain road. It had a lot of damage compared to the last time I used it. I went to the Mamushi onsen afterwards for a relaxing bath.

A very rainy day. I headed with the hope to find some interesting mushrooms and frogs. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted but it was still a fun hike.

After reaching the top the rain stopped and the weather brightened. When I was admiring a small lake I could hear the sound of buzzing nearby. I found that I was standing right next to a bee hive inside a tree!

I ignored the weather forecast that said it would be grey and cloudy all day and headed out. I was going to hike Homan but instead I caught the train down to Kiyama and changed to the Amagi line.

I hiked from the station up to Mekubariyama and I also visited the various smaller peaks on the mountain. On the way I went to Hotto Motto to get a bento to do Hanami if there was cherry blossoms on the top. I got lucky, the Sakura trees on the top were in bloom! I sat and enjoyed the view and eating lunch before hiking down.

I headed towards Amagi park stopping by Maruyama shrine on the way. I almost walked around the whole thing to find the entrance. It seems that there is a water treatment centre on the mountain so there are a lot of restricted areas. I then went to Amagi park to see the cherry blossoms there but honestly after seeing the beautiful trees in the mountains it was less impressive just to walk around the park.

On the way back to the station I stopped by Amagi onsen for a hot bath and then caught the train home.

Today I went out to Tomidake in Hisayama. This is my first new mountain area this year on the next goal to reach 500 peaks, which will be challenging mainly using public transport for solo hikes!

At the base of this mountain is Inotenshokodai Shrine (伊野天照皇大神宮) an old an important shrine. The old site is higher up from the other building and was being visited by many people. The hike carries on after the shrine. It was cold and icy and started to hail. The view was good despite the weather and as the mountain's name suggests we could see far.

After we visited a small hill near the car park which also had a nice view.

Lookong forward to visiting more new places this year.

Today I headed to nearby Mt. Homan to see the snow and frozen waterfall.

It started OK but became more difficult at around the first water fountain so I put on my crampons and this made the hiking much easier. I saw lots of people who were very poorly prepared with only regular shoes and I saw at least five people slip and fall.

The top though was pretty clear with good views. I went down to the camp centre for a cup of coffee. A lovely woman on the next table gave me chocolate! Thank you!

The atmosphere was wonderful. Beautiful white snow everywhere which made everyone happy. Lots of people were eager to stop and talk a little. So I got to meet lots of great people.

The waterfall was worth the effort. It was beautiful and better than last year. Lots of long icicles hung down from the rocks. There were lots of people who hiked up from the Umi start point.

On the way down I passed two sweet women with large dogs. One of them had a border collie and the other had a Bernese Mountain Dog which might be my new favourite breed!

宝満山（ほうまんざん）（標高829.6m）は福岡県筑紫野市と太宰府市にまたがる山であり、別名を御笠山（みかさやま）、竈門山（かまどやま）とも言う。

Just yesterday I was at the nearby Tenpaizan with just a little light snow at the top. Last night though a lot of snow fell! Just a little way south the fields and houses were covered in snow.

The trees were all buckled and bent from the weight of the snow in their branches. It got deeper as we climbed and as we reached the top it was almost up to our knees in some places! We hiked up cutting a path to the top peak point. After taking in the wonderful winter views we went back to the view tower and I made hot chocolate. We hiked down carefully following the footprints.

After hiking we went for warm chanpon for lunch. Yummy!

Kiyama: a proper snow hike! 基山

After a busy week of preparation and performing as Santa I was excited to head out hiking. But the weather said it would rain all day! But it stopped in the afternoon so I headed out for a short hike and some coffee with a view.

There were still lots of nice Autumn colours around Tenpaizan. At the top it was a little snowy. Mt. Homan in the distance looked much more snowy and cold. I stopped for coffee and a cake and then hiked down greeting the cats on the way. Looking forward to finding some snow tomorrow!

Winter mini hike with a little snow 天拝山

I took an early bus from Kanzaki station up to Niiyama-mae. I started by looking around the shrine. The leaves were a little green in some places and a little old in other places which is a shame. It still looked good but not as good as a few years ago.

I then hiked up Kawarakeyama. I wrote on a small dish and carried it up the mountain with me and made a donation to the shrine. The weather was grey and it started to rain on top so I didn't spend too long up there and instead headed down. Once down I walked back to Kanaki station mostly following the Jobaru river.

More cloudy weather crushing my plans. oh well, my daughter had training at Onojo sports park so we passed the time by hiking Shioji. Nice use of a Sunday morning, still shame about the weather!

We started the day with a family hike up Mt. Homan from Kamado Shrine. My daughter did her best and worked hard. We ate lunch at the camp centre near the summit before parting ways. I headed off alone to visit the frozen waterfall and to go down to Showanomori to camp for the night in the woods with friends.

It was great to camp in the woods and feel the darkness steadily close in. The light from the campfire illuminating our faces.

In the morning we hiked back down to Umi station and ate delicious hamburgers for lunch! Yum!
