登山

23年ぶりにサンライズ。そして、3年ぶりのレーニア山国立公園。23年前、主人（その時は彼氏）が家族に会いに来て、サンライズへ連れて行った。その時も3rd Burroughs Mountainまで行った。思い出の場所になった。

花がすごくて青空で...日焼け止めを沢山塗った。このBurroughs（バローズ？）山からの眺めはすごい。氷河の真上だ！一応、山頂3座通過したけど、YAMAPの地図に載っていない。残念。😅

ちょっと思ったけど、午前中、ちゃんとした格好のハイカーたちばっかりだったけど、昼過ぎたら、観光客が殆ど...リュックや水がないでサンダルで登山？ミニスカートも？😑山をなめないで下さい。

木曜日の8時に駐車場に到着した。（1時間ずれている。）その時は大丈夫だったけど、帰ったら殆どいっぱいだった。週末は避けたほうがいい。あ、そして、トイレや携帯トイレブースは全くない。ご注意下さい。

18k歩いてお腹空いた。晩ご飯はCrystal Mountain ResortのAlpine Innだった。それも、思い出の場所。340gのプライムリブを一人で完食。山わさびソースは最高だった。

I haven't been to Sunrise in 23 years. I think the last time was when my husband (then boyfriend) came to meet my family. It was about time for another visit.

Wild flowers were in full bloom, and blue sky. I did not skimp on the sunscreen. We forgot the teabags. What a view! I like looking down on glaciers, that's fun. This was our first time to visit the fire overlook, but the view from Burroughs was better, we thought. Oh, and we bagged 3 peaks: first, second, and third Burroughs Mountains. Too bad Yamap hasn't marked them as peaks on the map.

People seemed to get less and less equipped as the day went on: avid hikers in the morning, casual hikers around noon, tourists in flip-flops and mini skirts in the afternoon. Take the mountain seriously, people.

We arrived at around 8 a.m. on a Thursday; there was no wait to get into the park and no problem getting parking. The lot was mostly full when we got back. Oh, and there's no toilet anywhere on this route; you've been warned.

Afterwards, anniversary dinner at the Alpine Inn. I ate a 12oz cut of prime rib. I was hungry.

レーニア山国立公園（レーニアさんこくりつこうえん、またはマウントレーニア国立公園、英: Mount Rainier National Park）はアメリカ合衆国ワシントン州ピアース郡の南東部からルイス郡の北東部にかけて位置する国立公園である。1899年3月2日に合衆国5番目の国立公園として設立された。公園は953 km2（368平方マイル）の面積であり、標高4,392m（14,410フィート）の成層火山であるレーニア山全体が含まれている。カスケード山脈の中の最高峰であるレーニア山の周囲には谷や滝、亜高山帯の野生植物の草原、原生林と26以上の氷河がある。この火山はしばしば雲に覆われ、毎年山頂部は大量の降雨、降雪にみまわれる。
レーニア山には山の周りを一周するワンダーランドトレイル(en)と呼ばれるトレイル（登山道）があり、合計91km2（35平方マイル）の面積があるいくつかの氷河と雪原に覆われている。そのうち、エモンズ氷河(en)が面積で米国本土最大である一方、カーボン氷河(en)が体積で最大であり、かつ最も低い標高（1,067 m（3,500 フィート））に舌端がある。北緯46度の中緯度で、なおかつ標高の低い地点にこれだけ大規模な氷河が存在するのは、太平洋からやってくる湿気を帯びた風がレーニア山にぶつかり、それにより冬期に大量の降雪をもたらすためである。
毎年およそ130万人がこの国立公園を訪れる。約1万人がレーニア山への登頂を目指し、そのうちおよそ25パーセントだけが登頂に成功する。
この公園には類い希なる実例となる原生林と亜高山帯の草原が含まれている。

初めてこのNaches Peak Loopに来た時、両親に負んぶしてもらったはず。そして、本当に久しぶり。子供の時以来かも。混んでいてあまりチャレンジじゃないからずっと違う所に行ったかな。今日は水曜日...週末程混んでいなかったけど混んでいた。駐車場に戻ったら順番待ちだった。

人が多いのは理由がある。何、この花畑。すごい。そんなに頑張らなくても子供を連れて来ても大丈夫。すごい景色が見える。花、マルモット、リス、レーニア山など。

今日、初めての経験。野点を楽しみながら蚊の群れに攻撃されて、それから茶巾は可愛い鳥に盗まれた。「キャンプ泥棒」というニックネームの鳥。可愛いけどいたずらをする。主人は奪い返して、多分遊んでいるだろう？と言った。

I probably "hiked" this one for the first time in the baby backpack, carried by one of my parents. And I haven't been back since I was pretty little, since this is kind of a kiddie hike, and my parents probably thought it not challenging enough and too crowded. Crowded, yes, but not too bad on a Wednesday. When we came back, the parking lot was completely full and people were waiting for spots. 

Anyway, we got lots of bang for our buck on this little hike. A marmot and several ground squirrels 🐿️right next to the trail, wildflowers blooming like crazy, picturesque lakes, and Mt. Rainier. Today's excitement was outdoor tea while being savagely attacked by mosquitoes, and then a camp robber came and flew off with my chakin... 🐦😅

Tomorrow there will be more time, so we will do a grownup hike.

人生初めて母国でのマラソン大会に出た。前回の5kより4分早くなって嬉しい。そして、石狩サーモンマラソンと違ってこっちは坂道がかなりあった。

弟は2位、主人も両親も友達も出た。楽しかった。🥰

My first ever race in my home country... and I took about 4 minutes off my previous 5k time, even though this course had hills, and the Ishikari salmon marathon course is completely flat. It was fun to run with my brother (2nd place!) and husband, with my parents and a number of friends among the walkers in the back.

久しぶりの10kランだった。かなり疲れたけど、最後まで走れた。

このコース、路線だったけど、今ランニングやサイクリングのためのトレイルになっている。ちょっとつまらないけど実家の近くにあるのでとても行きやすい。

出発点は子供の時に遊んでいた公園。戻ったらちょっと公園を散歩して、ちょうどハクトウワシの狩を背景できた。湖から魚をとった！お見事！

It's been a while since we did a full nonstop 10k. By the end I was pretty tired, but I made it. 

This trail goes along a former rail line, starting at a park I played in as a kid. It does get kind of boring... but it's close to my parents' house so it's convenient.

We walked into the park after our run and saw a bald eagle 🦅 catch a fish.

Eastrail Run #1

今年の夏、里帰りして来た。懐かしいところいっぱい行って楽しかった。😊

子供の時、両親に登山やハイキングに連れて行かれたけど、どこに行ったか殆ど覚えていない。長いハイキングはちょっと苦手だったので多分このメラクワ湖は初めてだろう。デニークリークは何回も...それはちゃんと覚えている。子供に大人気。沢は自然なウォータースライダーだ。YAMAPがあって記録ができてよかった。これから覚えよう。😅

今日は高温注意報が出た。何それ。27℃で湿度が低い。シアトルの人たち、暑さに弱いね。一応、山に行って滝は湖を眺めて涼もうと思った。

湖までのハイキングコースはとてもきれいだった。花畑も森も。メラクワ湖は山に囲まれてすごい。一日中景色を眺めたいぐらい。

17年間北海道の登山スタイルに慣れて、里帰りするとびっくりした。ここのトレイルは広くてスイッチバックがいっぱいあるので険しくない。トレイルの状態はあまりにもきれいでいつまでも歩ける感じがする。

I used to be kind of a wimp when it came to hikes when I was growing up... so I don't think I ever made it to Melakwa Lake, even though I did the first part of the hike to Denny Creek many times. There's a natural waterslide, so it's popular with kids. 

There was a heat advisory, so I thought it would be nice to go somewhere cool... maybe we could even go swimming. It turns out, though, that it only got up to 27C, with low humidity... very comfortable weather, and not nearly hot enough to swim in snow melt water. I don't think people in the Seattle area know the meaning of the word "hot." It's weird, some of the things you notice when you move away from home and then come back for a visit.

Anyway, the whole route to the lake was beautiful... lots of wildflowers and pretty forest. The lakes are surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks... awesome. Could have stayed all day, but we got a bit of a late start.

After years of hiking in Hokkaido, this hike seemed pretty easy. Because in Washington state, trails are wide and smooth, and they have switchbacks, so they don't tend to be all that steep. It's amazing what a difference that makes. It's like I could keep on walking forever.

子供の時、このコースは線路だった。電車がなくなったのでランニングやサイクリングのために作り直された。今日走った部分よりずっと続くけど、今日の目的は10キロメートルだった。最初と最後の時、両親も一緒だった。

ハゲワシの鳴き声を聞いたけど見なかった。🦅ミサゴを見た...多分。

During my childhood, this trail was a train track. Now it has been converted into a trail for running, walking, and biking. There's a lot more of it than the portion I ran today, but I was aiming to run 10k, so that's what I did. My parents joined me for warmup and cool down walking portions. I think they ended up walking about 6k.

I heard but did not see eagles, and I think I saw an osprey.

One more trail run before we leave. It was foggy today, so very different scenery.

ヴィクトリア（英: Victoria）は、カナダのブリティッシュコロンビア州の州都。同州南西部に大陸側とはジョージア海峡などをはさんで横たわるバンクーバー島の南端部にある。
衛星都市も含む都市圏グレーターヴィクトリア（英語版）の人口は約33万5,000人（2003年現在）で、バンクーバー島では最大。主要産業は観光と政府関連。

そうだよ！カナダにも温泉がある！湯はかなり暑い。出る所は50℃だ。一番気持ちがいいところは波が温泉と混ざっているところだった。

最高な場所だけどアクセスが難しい。日本からの私達の道のりは
新千歳空港✈羽田空港✈シアトル🚙バンクーバー⛴ナナイモ🚙トフィーノ🚤Hot Springs Cove
です。長～い。でみ、その旅も色々な楽しみがある。

例えば、トフィーノからのボートに乗っている間、ラッコと2種類のクジラに出会った。🐳🥰景色もとてもきれい。ボートからのハイキングコースは原生林で美しい。

トフィーノにいる間、日本人は一人も会わなかったこと、びっくりした。

That's right, an onsen in Canada! The water is super hot, but the best spot is where onsen water and ocean water mix. 

You have to get there by boat from Tofino, which was scenic, not to mention that the ocean around Tofino is infested with otters and whales. And the walk from the dock to the onsen was also beautiful... old growth forest!

I was seriously surprised that I didn't meet a single Japanese person the whole time we were in Tofino area.

マケンジービーチに早朝散歩。潮干だったので色々おもしろかった。

We took an early morning beach walk at Mackenzie Beach. The tide was out, so there were lots of interesting things to look at.

Mackenzie Beach 

主人は地衣とでかい木々を見たいと言ってここに来た。確かにあった。美しい砂浜もあったけど、主人の靴に砂が入っちゃった。😅ビジターセンターにも覗いてみた。

今日はランニングとハイキングを合わせたら18キロ以上。ちょっと足が疲れている。

あ、そうね。今日は20周年結婚記念日。🥰

My husband wanted to see lichen and very large trees. He got what he wanted. There were also some beaches (sand got in his running shoes and that did not please him) and we looked into the visitor's center. 

Today's total was about 18km of running and walking. My feet are a little tired. 😅

Did I mention that it's our 20th wedding anniversary?

Nuu Chah Nulth Trail

今日もトレイルランニング。今回は主人と弟と。昨日より長くて速かったかと思う。トレイルもビーチもとてもきれいだった。潮溜まりに覗いてみておもしろかった。

Another trail run today, a bit further and faster, I think. The trail and beaches were beautiful. We stopped to look into tide pools too. 

Mackenzie Beach〜Tonquin Beachランニング

バンクーバー島のトフィーノに来ている。今日はずっと雨の予報が、早朝のみが降らない。弟とトレイルランニングした。私よりずっと早い。😅でも付き合ってくれた。

Tonquin Beach Trail はとてもきれい。でかい木々がいっぱいで海岸も美しい。毎日走りたいぐらい。トフィーノの町まで走ってホテルに戻ってご褒美にシナモンロールとコーヒーをいただいた。🥐☕

We are in Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It's supposed to rain all day, but early morning was still okay. I went running with my brother. He is much faster than I am... running zigzag. At least he wasn't running in circles around me. 😅

The trail was beautiful... lots of big trees and viewpoints over the beach. I would be happy to do this every day we are here. We ran all the way into town and onto the pier. Then back to the Middle Beach Lodge for cinnamon rolls and coffee.

Tonquin Beach Trail 

主人と私は３年半バンクーバーに住んでいた。７年ぶりに遊びに行った。その時に参加した教会に礼拝を守ったり友達に会ったり公園の散歩をしたりした。楽しかった。

でもバンクーバーに住んでいた時、勉強ばっかりしていたので、残念ながら登山はほとんどできなかった。そして、エッグタルト、その時知らなかった。香港に行った時初めて知った。バンクーバーに香港人はいっぱい住んでいて私のためにエッグタルトを作ってくれている。🥧

My husband and I lived in Vancouver for 3 1/2 years, and haven't been back since 2018. We visited the church we attended then, walked in the park, and saw lots of friends. 

While living in Vancouver, we mostly studied, so we missed out on lots of things, like going hiking and eating egg tarts. We discovered egg tarts in Hong Kong, and there are many people from Hong Kong in Vancouver making egg tarts for me to eat.

所用のため久しぶりに故郷(広島・呉)に帰りました。ちょっとだけ江田島の陀峯山と天狗岩に寄ってみました。
時間がなかったので山頂まで車です😅
天狗岩は『るろ◯に剣心』(映画)での決闘シーンのロケ地らしく、観光の方も来られてました。
抜群の眺望で、改めてまたちゃんと？登ってみたいなぁと思える場所でした。

ほぼ観光的な1日を過ごしております😅
