Established in the mid-Meiji era by Sentaro Okayama, Yoko-en is a distinguished strolling garden located in Takabu, Hitachiomiya. The layout includes the Kiu-tei pavilion at its northern end, complemented by a pond, central island, and winding water channels. The garden is characterized by its integration with the surrounding landscape—including the Ogawa River and nearby mountains—and its diverse flora such as plum, maple, and Koyamaki (Japanese umbrella pine). Once a center for local culture, it hosted tea gatherings and seasonal festivities, providing a space for both commerce and recreation for the citizens.
