韓国岳（標高1,700m）は、宮崎県えびの市と小林市、鹿児島県霧島市の境にある霧島連山の最高峰。遠く韓の国まで見渡せるということから山名がつけられたともいわれるほど、展望がよい山です。山頂からは眼下にえびの高原が広がり、火口湖の大浪池、同じ霧島連山の獅子戸岳、新燃岳、中岳、高千穂峰を一望。山麓のえびの高原には、キリシマミズキ、ノカイドウ、ミヤマキリシマなどが生育し、特に4月下旬に咲くノカイドウはえびの高原にだけ生育する国の天然記念物です。主な登山道はえびの高原起点の2コースと、大浪池登山口から（約1時間半～2時間半）。火山活動が盛んなため、登山の際はえびの高原エコミュージアムのホームページをチェックしておきましょう。

Mt. Karakuni (elevation 1,700m) is the highest peak of the Kirishima mountain range on the border between Ebino City and Kobayashi City in Miyazaki Prefecture and Kirishima City in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is a mountain with a good view, so it is said that the mountain name was given because it can overlook the country of Korea far away. From the top of the mountain, the Ebino Plateau spreads out below you, and you can see the Onami Pond of the crater lake, Shishikodake, Shinmoedake, Nakadake, and Mt. On the Ebino Plateau at the foot of the mountain, Kirishima Mizuki, Malus spontanea, and Miyama Kirishima grow, and especially the Malus spontanea that blooms in late April is a national natural monument that grows only on the Ebino Plateau. The main mountain trails are the two courses starting from the Ebino Plateau and the Onamiike mountain trail (about one and a half to two and a half hours). 霧島山（きりしまやま）は、九州南部の宮崎県と鹿児島県県境付近に広がる火山群の総称であり、霧島連山、霧島連峰、霧島山地あるいは霧島火山群とも呼ばれる。最高峰の韓国岳（標高1,700m）と、霊峰高千穂峰（標高1,574m）の間や周辺に山々が連なって山塊を成している。

有史以降も噴火を繰り返す活火山（気象庁の活火山ランク付けはB）であり、特に新燃岳と御鉢では活発な火山活動が続いている。火山噴火予知連絡会によって火山防災のために監視・観測体制の充実等の必要がある火山に選定されている。
