It is said to have been founded by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, a celebrated Sei-i Taishogun. The vermilion main hall and Deva Gate (Niomon) create a stunning contrast against the lush greenery of the surrounding trees. In spring, the rhododendrons bloom in all their glory. Many visitors travel from across the country to seek the blessings of the "Kodakara Anzan no Sugi" (Cedar for Fertility and Safe Childbirth) located within the shrine grounds.
