Kumotori, one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, is a mountain that straddles Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, Okutama Town, Tokyo, and Tabayama Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, and its altitude of 2,017m is the highest peak in Tokyo. You can climb all year round, but the best time is the fresh greenery from mid-May to early June and the autumn leaves from late October to early November. There are multiple courses to the summit overlooking the mountains of Okutama and Mt. Fuji, but the general course is from the Kamosawa bus stop, which has a bus service from JR Okutama Station, via Ishione. The course has few dangerous spots, but it requires enough physical strength to climb up to an altitude difference of nearly 1500m. In addition, the course starting from Mitsumine Shrine on the Saitama side and the course from the festival bus stop on the Yamanashi side via Sanjo no Yu, an inn, are often walked. There are three manned huts in the mountains, Nanatsuishi Cabin (room without meals), Untori Sanso, and Sanjo no Yu, all of which allow you to stay in a tent.
