It felt like summer today for sure. I was wanting to stick my head under every waterfall along the way. I started at the Yunono bus stop and made my way up the trail towards the Sefuri ridge. Leaving the main trail, I took a smaller trail up to Nishiyama. It doesn’t look like it gets much use. There is red tape. However, the tape is old and sometimes hard to find. The beginning of the trail is a bit overgrown, but if you hike up the dry stream bed on the right side you’ll get past the bush and will find the tape again. When the trail leaves the gulch it climbs over the ridge and then runs along the slope above another ravine. I’m glad I had my trekking pole because the trail was slippery with those freshly fallen waxy leaves. It felt a little dicey because of the angle and the ravine down below. There are no ropes, so if you don’t like heights this may not be the best trail for you. After the trail hooks up with the main trail to Nishiyama it’s fine. The Sefuri ridge Kyushu Nature Trail was great as always. I went down to the Saga side to check out Takayama. There is blue tape as well as red to guide you along. The way down to Shiiba was pleasant with all the waterfalls along the way. I started rushing when so I could catch the 15:34 bus, but then I realized I should just relax and chill in the stream for a bit. I stopped for a long time at a swimming hole under a huge Momiji tree. I took my shoes off, rolled up my pants and splashed around in the cold water. I was really enjoying the afternoon, feeling refreshed and recharged.
