Pretty long walk! I'm sure the Onsen helped you refresh after the hike.
Don't know why you looked a wild boar to them though. Maybe they didn't recognize you until you walked fast and reached them close enough. I sometimes got frightened by sudden noise by a hiker at only a few meters away.

Yeah it can be easy to be startled when hiking alone. I guess our senses are more alert, I often react when I step on a branch which is connected to a bush. If I do see wild boar I usually shout and that always scares them off. Luckily no bears here on Kyushu!
