The Old Tokaido Road - route-1 at Oiwake to Sanjo-dori at Misasagi.

One of the many things I get a great deal of pleasure out of, from living in Japan, is the opportunity to explore & experience the vast history this great country has. And, today's bike-ride along a segment of the Old Tokaido Road, was another trip down the past. One thought was on my mind, as I made my way along this old road, that, during the era that this road was a major thoroughfare, my country, Aotearoa/New-Zealand, was about to be inhabited for the first time. Sadly, there is very little to witness of those past days, with many of the original buildings being replaced with modern structures. I came here on my mountain-bike but, if I was to do it again, or recommend this excursion to anyone, then I would suggest doing it on foot.
